CAB PRESENTS BIKE RODEO FOR CHILDREN at SEPT. 11 ECOFEST

As a part of 2010 EcoFest the Conway Advocates for Bicycling (CAB) is sponsoring a bike rodeo on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 11, from 1:00 until 4:00 in the Administration Building parking lot of the Conway Public Schools across Prince St. north of Laurel Park. The event features bike safety checks, advice on maintenance and repairs, and hands-on learning of how to avoid major causes of crashes. Parents will be given a written evaluation of each participant’s cycling skills and advice on how the child can improve. The rodeo is free and open to all children aged five to eleven when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who shall sign a release form at registration. The child must bring a helmet and a functional bicycle that he or she knows how to ride. Jim Bruce, a League Cycling Instructor certified by the League of American Bicyclists, will direct the rodeo. May is an exciting month for folks on two wheels. Not only is it the first full month of warm weather, it is also national bike month. To celebrate, CAB has planned several events throughout the month. Read on for more information.

May 13th - CAB Board Meeting

We will have our monthly CAB board meeting at 6:00 P.M. at US Pizza downtown.

May 14th, 16th - Traffic Skills 101

Co-instructors Jim Bruce and Chad Files welcome beginner and intermediate bicyclists, 16 and up, to Traffic Skills 101.  The two-part course starts Friday, May 14 at 6 pm at the McGee Sports Center in Conway.  Traffic Skills 101 is part of The Smart Cycling program, a nationwide effort to give adults and children the training they need to operate a bike safely and legally. This fast-paced course prepares cyclists for a full understanding of vehicular cycling.

May 21st - Bike to Work Day

CAB members will be leading rides from all corners of the City to downtown where we will have a bike rally at Simon Park. Breakfast will be available at the park. At 8:30 the Mayor will unveil the first of many bike racks that will be installed throughout the City. Check the website for routes and more information.

May 30th - RideCivil

On the last Sunday of every month CAB members and friends meet in the parking lot of First United Methodist Church (corner of Clifton and Prince Streets) at 2 p.m. to take a group ride through town. These rides are "commuter style" slower paced. They average about 8-9 miles in length. The route will be announced a few weeks before the ride and will be on the website.

Ride Your Bike to Toad Suck Daze PDF Print E-mail

Tired of trying to find a parking spot for the Toad Suck Daze festival? Why not ride your bike? You can park much closer to the festival than you could if you drove a car. There's no designated bike parking so you will need to find a place to lock up your bike. The map below shows several possible routes into the festival from different parts of town. Most of them start or pass through a large public parking area. These routes were designed to be safe for families with young riders. They favor trails and low-traffic areas. Most of the routes will cross busy streets and some will take you on short jaunts down busy streets to get from one neighborhood to another. Since all riders are different, you are encouraged to study the map and use your own judgement as to whether it is suitable for you and your family. We recognize that much of Conway is still under-served by this map. This is because it is difficult to recommend routes in some of these places where riders must cross I-40 or Dave Ward Drive. Hopefully our combined efforts will be making these areas more accessible in the near future. If you have any questions about getting to Toad Suck Daze or just getting around Conway in general shoot us an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
