Board Members Present: Peter Mehl, Greg Reddin, Mike Ferryall, Jim Bruce, John Parrack, Amie Regester, Sujith Kumar
Board Members Absent: Chad Files
March & April Minutes: The minutes from the meetings in March and April were unanimously approved by the members present.
Staggered Board Terms: CAB did not implement staggered board terms in April’s election meeting. There was some discussion about what staggered board terms mean for officers since officer terms are for one year. Peter clarified that an officer would remain on the board for the remainder of his or her board term even if he or she was not reelected to the officer’s position. This seemed to meet with general agreement.
Mike volunteered for a one-year board term noting that there’s a chance he may be forced to relocate within the next few months.
Staggered board terms were implemented by drawing numbers. The staggered terms are as follows: Serving 2-year terms expiring in 2011: Chad, Peter, Greg. Serving 3-year terms expiring in 2012: John, Sujith. Serving one-year terms expiring in 2010: Amie, Jim, Mike.
Member Information Forms: Peter presented a form as a candidate to keep information about board members. The idea was approved by general consent and Greg agreed to create a form tailored to CAB’s needs. Amie requested a similar form for the general membership to include projects members are interested in. Peter agreed to help her create one.
Miscellaneous Items:
· Amie agreed to be CAB’s PR Director.
· Peter has found a CPA who is willing to help us with our 501 (c) 3 status free of charge.
· An update on May Bike Month activities was given. Jim agreed to lead the Tour de Toad Family Ride.
· The board had unanimously approved via email reimbursement of Peter’s expenses for printing of the CAB brochure. Peter mentioned the final price was $216.
We were pleased to have Conway Mayor Tab Townsell give a report on the city’s efforts to become a bicycle-friendly community. Mayor Townsell mentioned that there had been a few past efforts at bringing more bike facilities to the city, but that the $4.00 per gallon gasoline prices of last summer made it a “moral issue”. With that, the city began its efforts in earnest. To date the accomplishments have been the establishment of CAB, the adoption of a Bicycle Master Plan for Conway, the adoption of a complete streets ordinance, and the establishment of the Bicycle Advisory Board. The Bicycle Advisory Board is now taking applications and CAB is supposed to submit some name
s for consideration as well. The Mayor also mentioned some of the upcoming events during the month of May, includ
ing Bike to Work day, community ride with the Mayor, RideCivil, and the Silver Moon Cinema event.
There was some good discussion among those present. Discussion centered around the rules of the road, using streets with only one bike lane, and including questions about cyclists in the state driver’s manual. The city was also encouraged the city to continue thinking about recreational trail opportunities along the Arkansas River, Cadron Settlement, and other interests.
Board members and several others in attendance signed up for CAB memberships and “bike bucks” from The Ride were given out.
